Mental mediumship
Mental mediumship is when the spirits use the senses to communicate. It’s often known as telepathic mediumship. The three main sensory channels are:
1. clairvoyance – the medium pictures people, objects or events associated with the spirit through the mind’s eye
2. clairaudience – the medium hears the voices or thoughts of the spirit
3. clairsentience – the medium feels the presence of the spirit, for example by experiencing sensations that the spirit felt during their earthly life, such aches and pains, or by feeling a cold draught of air or touch on the shoulder
The other two senses are less common forms of medium communication. Clairalience is when the medium smells odours reminiscent of the spirit, such as beer if they worked in a brewery, or salt air if they lived by the sea. Clairgustance is when the medium has sensations of tastes associated with the spirit, such as food that they enjoyed or tobacco if they smoked.
